ABSTRACT
‘Vandalism’ may be defined as the intentional damage or destruction of material objects or ‘property’, either as a straightforwardly criminal act or for political reasons. The term originates in the name of the fifth-century Germanic peoples the Vandals, whose notoriety for seemingly wanton acts of destruction reached its apex in the sacking of Rome (Lévy-Leboyer, 1984).
