ABSTRACT

One of the primary concerns with climate change is the impact it has on global food security. Changes in the global climate will have far reaching impacts on food systems, and changes in food systems invariably impact climate change (Liverman and Kapadia, 2010). While crop and climate models provide detailed forecasts of possible changes in food production, less is known about the interplay of urbanization with climate change and food security. As the global population continues to urbanize—70 percent of the global population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050 (OECD, 2012)—issues of poverty and food insecurity will also increasingly become urban phenomena.
