ABSTRACT

In keeping with the general international trend, Italian municipalities have been developing participatory strategic plans since the late 1990s. The first municipality to engage citizens and stakeholders in city plan formulation was Turin in 2000. More than forty municipalities have now followed its lead, and an association has been set up to form a network between them.
