ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to introduce the Turkish planning system and its institutional background from a historical perspective, delineate key changes that have taken place in the last decade and indicate conflicts and pitfalls within the planning system through reference to some current experiences in Turkey. The chapter focuses on the following questions and issues:

● What have been the major changes in the planning system at national, regional and local levels in Turkey, especially in the past two decades? Which new institutions have been introduced?
