ABSTRACT
The achievement of the East Asian countries in transforming their economies to the status of “newly industrialized countries” in a relatively short period of time has drawn significant admiration and attention from researchers and development experts all over the world. Some even termed it “the Asian Miracle.” Volumes have been produced on various aspects of the East Asian experience, and more will be forthcoming. Predicting the future is always a risky business, and it is more so when we are dealing with human behavior and its likely impact on economic development. Yet an attempt will be made here to foresee the future!
