ABSTRACT

This chapter revisits the themes of the book in the context of the Routledge Explorations in Sustainability and Governance series, of which this text is the first. The development of this multi-scale, multi-dimensional accounting framework for analysis of the nexus of food, energy and water uses theory and lessons from complexity science to address a globally significant challenge for analysis in sustainability. In our view, making the approach operational represents a step toward the development of a quantitative post-Cartesian science that can directly address some of the most complex issues of sustainability and change that are currently faced.
