ABSTRACT

Michael Jackson, 1958–2009, was the seventh of nine children. Joseph and Katherine Jackson’s children included: Rebbie, Tito, Jackie, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon (whose twin, Brandon died in infancy), Michael, Randy, and Janet. Michael eventually became a global superstar and was often referred to as the King of Pop. He was an acclaimed singer, songwriter, dancer, and entertainer. Joseph was a crane operator and moderately talented musician who was determined to make his children stars. In this endeavor he played the role of the tyrant, using a whip to punish with the usual admonition, “this is for your own good.”
