ABSTRACT

On July 12, 2006, Lebanese Hizballah militants attacked Israeli military outposts in the Shebaa Farms, kidnapping two Israeli soldiers and leaving at least eight dead. 1 The attack sparked a month long volley of Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon and a barrage of Hizballah Katyusha rocket attacks on northern Israel. The crisis peaked with an Israeli ground assault before a ceasefire was finally reached in mid-August. The fighting caused hundreds of deaths and injuries, extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, and hundreds to become homeless. 2
