ABSTRACT

For women who wish to preserve their fertility, myomectomy is the most common surgical treatment option. Depending on the location of the fibroid(s) and the experience and skill of the physician, the surgical approach can include hysteroscopy, laparotomy, minilaparotomy, laparoscopy, or robotic-assisted laparoscopy. This chapter discusses the important preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative components of a robotic-assisted myomectomy, beginning by first looking at the required patient evaluation and patient setup. Finally, it examines the postoperative considerations that need to be taken. As many patients who undergo myomectomies are interested in fertility, they should all be extensively counseled regarding the recovery period prior to attempting pregnancy.
