ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book argues that the continual spraying of crops with pesticides is endangering the very pollinators on whom agriculture depends–surely a disaster in the making. It explains how the very oceans are being depleted of life, not just to feed humanity but to be crushed into feed for animals in industrial farms, some of them also fish species. The book savages the cheap food paradigm, which subjects animals to misery and the people who work in the industry to low wages and often horrendous conditions. It takes an innovative look at some of our animal brothers and sisters. The book experts on the welfare of farm animals, makes a strong case for treating the sentient beings with respect and care, if we want to continue eating their products.
