ABSTRACT

This chapter describes violence against women identified five main types of violence: Physical, verbal, emotional, sexual, and other. Child abuse is the result of decision-making by adults or other children who have some power over the child. Within the economic structure of child abuse, five individuals or groups who make decisions about a child are considered: The child's guardian or guardians; the perpetrator of abuse who has access to the child; bystanders; the government; and the child. Their choices contribute to the safety or endangerment of the child. To fully analyze the economic structure of child abuse, it is important to consider the benefits of child abuse to each of the decision-makers. The main distinction relating to violence against women and child abuse is that children have much lower levels of self-determination due to being under the legal guardianship of other persons.
