ABSTRACT
The Internet of things (IoT) revolution has fundamentally changed the way we interact with technology and use it for meeting our basic needs. This chapter aims to create a basic understanding of IoT and its applications. Before venturing into any IoT project, it is important to understand the advantages the platform offers and its accompanying drawbacks. The latter being the issues of privacy and security in IoT-based systems. Furthermore, the chapter deals with the major applications of IoT in the fields of automation, health care, and manufacturing among others.
