ABSTRACT

The remote patient health monitoring (RPHM) system is useful for collecting patients’ health data, location, diseases, medication orders, hospital locations and medical devices. Large amounts of vital health information are generated and updated in real time, generating alerts and notifications to healthcare providers, how can know the patients’ health conditions even away from the hospital. Internet of medical things (IoMT) provides for the investigation and collection of large amounts of medical data and enhances the decision-making process and early disease diagnosis. The prime focus of this chapter is to propose a new remote healthcare monitoring system and to collect the wearable sensor data that is linked to the IoMT-based cloud server for storage and processing. The stored data will be analysed and actions will be sent back to the user based on the feedback. Therefore, a prototype of remote patient monitoring architecture is proposed and is built to demonstrate its performance and advantages. In addition, this chapter also highlights the concept of IoMT and the customized network architecture; it will discuss its interactions, advantages, limitations, challenges and future perspectives for remote healthcare monitoring systems using IoMT.
