ABSTRACT

Since the 1990s Mexico has adopted an open regionalism strategy that has made it a key player in international trade having consolidated a network of 12 free trade agreements with 46 countries. Mexico’s open regionalism created a dynamic export sector which has made the country the eighth largest exporter and importer worldwide. Trade is a key element of Mexican economic growth and job creation. The Trump Administration’s protectionist trend has reinforced Mexico’s commitment to an open trading regime and the search for new export markets.
