ABSTRACT

Perhaps traditional story-tellers, who have been imbued with basic knowledge of conservation needs, could do much to spread the message through the midnight classrooms. Although one learned much about nature in the mid-night classrooms, some things had to come later. For kids, nothing could cause more pandemonium than the existence of a snake anywhere. The learned behaviour is secondary, although now more predominant. But one snake stood out from the rest; it was the python. This snake stood out on its own in our local culture. It was and still is the totem of the people. It was time to go when the sun blazed through the window and the teacher was tired from the strain of handling nearly of us in the class. Going back over and over again to the rural areas always produces nostalgia for days gone by. A relative of mine was up well before dawn.
