Track damage prediction for universal cost model applications

ByC. Casanueva, B. Dirks, M. Berg, T. Bustad

In the EU project Roll2Rail, a Universal Cost Model (UCM) is developed, where innovations in running gear can be analysed within a simplified Life Cycle Cost (LCC) framework regarding its impact in energy, noise, vehicle damage and track damage. In this paper we describe the developed methodology for track damage calculation, demonstrate a study case for a regional train, and extrapolate the differential costs of different vehicle technologies in infrastructure. The results and implementation of the damage calculation methods are discussed, and the benefits of a unified methodology for a wide range of stakeholders are presented.
