ABSTRACT

Commuting is one of the most crucial challenges for the transport system in urban regions. The future of the car commute is open. One scenario aims at a dystopia of fully automated personal transport. Science fiction-like autonomous vehicles are always on the move carrying people from A to B. The other scenario could be called integrated intermodal e-mobility: All means of transport in cities are to be electric and operated on a completely renewable energy basis. Private availability is generally unnecessary. In the same way that one navigates the Internet via a browser, new services synthesise the various devices and equipment into one continuous journey.
