ABSTRACT

Qatar shares many similarities with other GCC countries, but has its own distinctive identity. This chapter provides an overview of Qatar in terms of its politics, economy, and history and provides a clear picture of the status of public relations in Qatar, recognising the challenge of that country’s lack of PR literature. The chapter reports original data from surveys, and in-depth interviews with public relations scholars, practitioners, and historians. This chapter is the first literature that addresses the status of public relations in Qatar, providing an accurate and clear picture of the status public relations practice in that country, and investigating the evolution and environmental factors that influence public relations’ current status as well as the distinctive characteristics of public relations in Qatar.
