ABSTRACT

This last chapter summarizes the major findings of the book and makes explicit how the chapters are connected to one another; it recapitulates the main aspects of the theoretical and conceptual foundation of the book, and the discussion of paradigmatic fields of research: care work, transnational migration and citizenship. Inspired by Stuart Hall and his team’s Open University readers, this chapter introduces basic ideas for the class room use of this book, using Halls approach to cultural representations and signifying practices. A combination of text and image is drafted in which for each of the five chapters two films are introduced, their content summarized, basic knowledge about their historical contexts provided and questions connecting the film to the academic text are posed. The majority of the proposed films are publicly accessible; they include feature films and documentaries covering the time span from the 1970s to 2015.
