ABSTRACT

This chapter provides moment-rotation characteristics and corresponding parameters of semi-rigid beam-to-column connections used frequently in steel connection. Based on experimental test data collected by Kishi and Chen, a data bank on steel beam-to-column connections was developed at Purdue University Computer Center. To control this data base systematically, the Steel Connection Data Bank program (SCDB) has been developed. The SCDB program provides seven main functions including routines for tabulating the experimental test data and some proposed prediction equations. While two types of construction, fully restrained (FR) construction and partially restrained (PR) construction, are defined in the specifications, these guidelines for the design of PR construction are not given, since it is very difficult to evaluate the actual restraint of semi-rigid connections used in engineering practice. The chapter discusses some of the importance of connection models in more detail.
