ABSTRACT
The widespread utilization of the radioimmunoassay technique as a sensitive, specific, and accurate method for the measurement of a wide variety of compounds of biochemical and clinical interest has stimulated interest in the development of automated technology. The basic concept of the Gammaflo™ Automated Assay System originated at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The Gammaflo™ System is a hybrid combination of continuous flow methodology and discrete sample analysis. The Gammaflo™ System is composed of the instrument and the reagents. The Gammaflo™ System has been designed to provide flexibility and adaptability both in the present and in the future. The entire operation of Gammaflo™ is under the control of a microcomputer. The display exhibits alphanumeric information entered by the computer or by the operator via the keyboard. The software developed for the Gammaflo™ instrument runs under the Digital Equipment Corporation RT-11® operating system.
