ABSTRACT

The widespread utilization of the radioimmunoassay technique as a sensitive, specific, and accurate method for the measurement of a wide variety of compounds of biochemical and clinical interest has stimulated interest in the development of automated technology. The basic concept of the Gammaflo Automated Assay System originated at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The Gammaflo™ System is a hybrid combination of continuous flow methodology and discrete sample analysis. The Gammaflo System is composed of the instrument and the reagents. The Gammaflo System has been designed to provide flexibility and adaptability both in the present and in the future. The entire operation of Gammaflo is under the control of a microcomputer. The display exhibits alphanumeric information entered by the computer or by the operator via the keyboard. The software developed for the Gammaflo instrument runs under the Digital Equipment Corporation RT-11® operating system.
