ABSTRACT
Ushering in a new approach, which introduces an alternative philosophy to such a patient, where the aims are re-focused on keeping the severely injured patient alive no matter the cost, has become the new overriding principle. This somewhat unconventional approach abandons the single, definitive surgical plan. Instead, the major compelling issues of haemorrhage control and contamination containment are addressed through abbreviated surgical techniques.
