ABSTRACT

This chapter explains some of the more important technology-embodying inputs into the national economy which influenced its change and growth from the perspective. The University of Zimbabwe, founded during the Federation years, greatly developed in its student population and coverage of academic disciplines, which increasingly reflect emphasis on science and technology subjects. Between 1980 and 1984, about 25 per cent of all the University's students were enroled in various science and technology disciplines. Most of the capital goods manufacturing companies in Zimbabwe have no capability for manufacturing new and sophisticated production machinery and plants. In the area extensive transfer of technology occurs through importation of the needed machinery and equipment. Zimbabwe's performance in the area of capital goods may be indicated by comparing the value of its exports to that of its imports. The transfer of capital goods, of course, is only one way of transferring technology as embodied in hardware.
