ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with how the construction industry can become a vehicle for innovative solutions in other sectors. It discusses the connection between construction projects and health care innovation. The chapter provides a brief overview of the Hungarian health care system. It discusses architectural and health care innovation from a network – or, more precisely, an extensive network – approach. The chapter analyses case studies based on the phases of the construction projects. It analyses the conflicts between the actors and the networks from the viewpoint of whether they supported or hindered the project, according to the networks. In the Szeged Project, the decision about the methodology and the product that should be used was influenced by the fact that the nanotechnology research centre of the project-owner university had developed a new nanotechnology-based product during the construction period. The chapter presents the outcomes of the interdependencies of the public and private networks.
