ABSTRACT

This chapter presents reactions to return to the decks case of Melissa Scruton, a professional disc jockey. The chapter discuss her case, details of the Grade II hamstring strain she encountered, and how this injury impacted her psychologically (i.e., re-injury anxiety, over-adherence). This case is explained by drawing on the multilevel model of sport injury (Wadey, Day, Cavallerio, & Martinelli, 2018) and narrative theory (Frank, 1995). An interprofessional care plan was developed to meet Melissa’s needs and the case is evaluated from the perspective of those involved: a physiotherapist, a sport psychologist, and a clinical psychologist. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and provides an update of Melissa’s life two years after her return to the decks.
