ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors present several different types of single-session therapy modalities they have discovered or modified in collaboration with their Khmer colleagues working in Cambodia. A number of studies have described mental-health problems and the psychological scars left by the genocide. The graduates of the Royal University of Phnom Penh psychology program started a Mobile Mental Health Unit to journey into the countryside to meet with families who have a member who is mentally ill. The authors experience may benefit others who endeavor to engage with various "majority world" contexts where about 85% of the people on the planet reside. Sometimes when becoming overwhelmed by the desperate situations that people encounter in the majority world it can be tempting to try to run in and provide more help than is requested, or even healthy for the situation.
