ABSTRACT

Learning analytics has evolved as a field of research and practice to become a vibrant interdisciplinary endeavour involving many researchers, practitioners and policymakers around the world. In this volume, we aimed to bring together some of the key researchers in the global learning analytics community to make sense of the cutting-edge research in learning analytics for education researchers and teachers. The chapters in this volume cover important theoretical considerations, implications when implementing research in practice, case studies of evidence-based learning analytics interventions and discussions of policy and development implications of learning analytics in the classroom. We synthesise the central messages and trends in learning analytics research and suggest areas for fruitful future development, particularly for collaborations between teachers, practitioners and researchers. Our aim with this volume is to help bridge the gap between learning analytics research and the classroom and we hope it serves as a catalyst for ongoing conversation between researchers and teachers.
