ABSTRACT

Most authorities expect continued expansion of zero-tillage systems, especially in Asia and Africa. Increased availability and affordability of suitable equipment will allow this, as long as access to information and inputs occurs concurrently. Overall, this trend toward increased zero-tillage acres will help reduce the labour requirement for agriculture and could decrease the overall cost of production in many areas. Combined with the soil erosion benefits of zero-tillage, the result should be more sustainable global maize production.
