ABSTRACT

As the world’s second largest crop in terms of production measured in metric tons, maize cultivation is intimately bound to human’s fate on planet earth. PMC techniques can help farmers maintain or increase their productivity while reducing their impact on the biosphere. PMC is an approach that is integrated by nature; involves collection of data, analysis and conversion of data to actionable information; decision making; implementation of farm operations and feedback on the decisions taken. This philosophy of maize production is not new; however, it is now implemented at a level that is often beyond the capacity of a single person. For this reason, it is expected that PMC techniques will be adopted by farmers who are open to new technologies and who are eager to collaborate with agronomists, people from the industry and scientists to achieve a new standard of maize cultivation for the greater good of our planet.
