ABSTRACT

Macio Moretti (born 1975) is one of the most active artists on Poland’s independent scene. During his career he has played in numerous bands representing different genres, from metal to jazz. One of his bands, Mitch & Mitch, became widely recognized thanks to its album 1976: A Space Odyssey, recorded with Zbigniew Wodecki, a veteran of Polish middle-of-the-road music. Moretti is also a renowned session musician, graphic artist, cultural organizer, and co-founder of the Lado ABC label. In the interview that closes this volume Moretti tells the fascinating story of his life-long relationship with music, discusses the role of independence in his artistic life, and comments on the place of Polish popular music on the global music scene.
