ABSTRACT

An increasing number of risk factors have been linked to dementia risk. As each individual has a unique combination of risk and protective factors with a complex interplay over time, it is important to have tools for early assessment of overall dementia risk based on multifactorial profiles. Such tools can be used to identify at-risk people who are most likely to benefit from preventive strategies and to tailor interventions to the individual’s risk profile. There is currently still a large gap between dementia prediction and prevention. Very few prediction tools have been used in clinical trials, emphasizing the importance of accurate and validated prediction tools for the success of dementia preventive interventions.
