ABSTRACT
The performance of pavements depends on the properties of the subgrade soil and pavement materials. Accurate measurement of the properties of the base layer is essential to avoid failure of the subgrade. Shear modulus is a soil characteristic, which determines the strength of the subgrade and hence, its measurement is required for the design and construction of pavements.
