ABSTRACT

The current chapter contributes toward a better understanding of how employees in flexible organizations can better profit from flexibility. We argue that employees need to become proactive in the form of spatial job crafting. We tested our assumptions with data from 292 employees working in a telecommunications company using a cross-sectional design. The results of this chapter have demonstrated that spatial job crafting can be seen as a strategy to foster work engagement and innovation when working flexibly. Our findings thus show the importance of spatial job crafting in flexible organizations and offer organizations and scholars a new direction to investigate flexible working practices.
