ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author provides to articulate more clearly what he have chosen as the title of his autobiography, that is, the relationship between callings and disciplines and attempts at listening. This autobiography is divided into two sections. The first section will be devoted to his professional academic development and achievements. The second will focus on the personal and spiritual highs and lows that have paralleled the first set of events. This section is a much more personal, less intellectual account of his development over time. The combination of disciplines, which he have certainly not mastered, are in fact life-long journeys. The listening for prestige, professional power, material possessions, has softened. John Wiley had a way of presenting their works as representing an intellectual discipline which might have practical relevance but should be appreciated for its own genre and its own internal logic and structure.
