ABSTRACT

Seminaries are by definition usually religious institutions actively involved in the training of young men and women for ministry. Although seminaries are generally less vulnerable to government intrusions than other religious higher education, they are nevertheless affected by such issues as tax exemption, religious standards in employment and admissions and the nature of protection under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Because of the nature of ministerial clientele served by seminaries, issues pertaining to the rights and responsibilities of those in religious ministries, as well as churches or other places of worship are of special concern to seminaries. Since some seminaries may be affiliated with religious colleges or universities, bibliographic entries are included which address the religious rights of the larger religious institution.
