ABSTRACT

Technologies are tools that allow us to perform complex tasks more efficiently or effectively. Learners are able to concentrate on developing higher order thinking skills. Many of these skills that information and communication technologies (ICT) apparently encourages are considered important for understanding of content and are also attractive to employers: thinking in critical and creative ways; being resourceful and showing initiative; and being able to solve problems that draw upon a range of learning areas and disciplines. D. A. Kolb's experiential learning cycle was used to guide pre-service teachers (PSTs) in the creation of digital objects. Their reflections on the task were analysed to investigate their thoughts on the potential of ICT to develop deeper understanding of content knowledge and transferable skills in learners. To successfully integrate ICT in education, the relationship of the technology to the content of the lesson, the pedagogical approach desired and the context of the learning environment need to be considered.
