ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the availability computation and optimization. It also presents a condition-based model for complex systems that undergo accelerated deterioration due to fault interactions. An extension to the work could include the studying of maximization of availability and minimization of cost in complex systems, considering more complex and combined failure interactions. The most critical factors that affect the travelling wave tubes (TWT) deterioration rate are voltage, temperature, and cathode current. To avoid acceleration of the TWT deterioration rate, the power supply should be periodically checked and remedial actions such as the use of an oscilloscope to check the power at specific transmitter points and the adjustment of the cathode current based on test points should be performed. The chapter explains the availability computation and optimization. N. Rasmekomen and A. Kumar Parlikad studied optimization of condition-based maintenance in complex systems with component dependencies.
