ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a central concept of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) strategic model which is referred to as the attempted solution theory. The strategic model based on the works of the MRI – referred to as the MRI strategic approach – helps teams to specifically reflect upon and evaluate their solution attempts to barriers of performance. In the absence of changes after certain coaching sessions, the strategic model recommends referring the client elsewhere so that coaches will not become an accomplice to the problem. Team coaching can help a team to maximize its collective talent and resources in order to reach identifiable goals. Reflection is an important part of team coaching and has been identified as a key factor identified in the effectiveness of work teams. A good range of psychological therapeutic techniques have been adapted to meet coaching objectives and have become part of a coach’s repertoire.
