ABSTRACT
When Diocletian withdrew the Roman troops from the Dodekaschoinos in 298, a particularly turbulent episode in the history of the northernmost part of Nubia began. In 700, the Dodekaschoinos was part of the independent Christian kingdom of Nobadia. This article discusses Greek and Coptic inscriptions that were part of this historical and geographical setting, and sheds light on the culture and institutions of the early Christian Dodekaschoinos.
