Role of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology as Advanced Molecular Tool and Trend in Quality Improvement of Rice Crop

The global rice demand is continuously increased. Asia is the largest rice consumer with more than 90% of the world’s rice consuming population. It was estimated that by 2035 the milled rice production should be increased up to 105 million t to satisfy the growing population of world rice consumers (IRRI, 2017). Nonetheless, the statistical data from 1990 to 2000s shows a trend of decline, from 2.73 to 0.88% (Zhu et al., 2010).
