ABSTRACT

Safety assessment of nanoparticles includes the set of challenges and uncertainties in the toxicity and exposure assessment steps associated with the increasing concern about the availability and the quality of approaches for these investigations. There is a need to protect the public and environmental health and safety. There are regulatory agencies worldwide for the risk assessment of several chemicals and/or mixtures, including nanoparticles (NPs), which are characterized as chemical substances that have structures at nanoscale, varying from 1 to 100 nanometers (nm). Nowadays, some specialist groups are creating committees to study the nanotoxicology properties of products considering this set of challenges and the uncertainties in different topics of risk assessment of nanoparticles. The main regulation steps include: physicochemical properties, toxicity evaluation, toxicokinetics, toxikodynamic, and risk communication.
