ABSTRACT

In recent years, there have been increasing efforts to further our understanding of the toxic potential or otherwise of nanomaterials. These efforts are laudable and welcome, however, we cannot afford to be oblivious to some factors that could influence our interpretation of the nanotoxicity data and to a larger extent our ability to accurately predict the biological effects of these materials. Among these factors are the choice of test model, choice of assay, and proper characterization of nanoparticles and/or nanomaterials to name a few. In the current chapter, we will be presenting an overview of in vivo nanotoxicity test models, and highlighting, comparing, and discussing the consistency and otherwise of available nanotoxicity reports.
