ABSTRACT

This chapter shares Dr. Sabrina D. MisirHiralall’s Presidential Address to the MAR-AAR constituency during the 2017 regional conference. As President, she developed the regional Women’s Caucus and the Undergraduate Symposium. In this chapter, she focuses on who public intellectuals are. She explores how public intellectuals construct knowledge. MisirHiralall shares her theory of Cultural Becoming to emphasize how the East and the West influence knowledge construction. MisirHiralall gives examples of public intellectuals in higher education and in society. Overall, this chapter explores the role of public intellectuals involved in religious and theological scholarship today.
