ABSTRACT

Ingrown nail is one of the most common nail problems for which patients come to seek dermatologist consultation. Ingrown nail is the impingement of the nail plate into the surrounding soft tissue, usually the lateral nail fold. It is characterized by painful, swollen and, sometimes, oozing peri-ungual tissue. Ingrown nail affects all age groups. It has large impact on quality of life of patient treatment options include conservative or medical and surgical. Medical treatment has limited efficacy in management of this condition. Surgical treatment is the most effective treatment with a diversity of techniques and results. This chapter describes etiopathogenesis, clinical features, and various treatment options available for treatment of ingrown nails.
