ABSTRACT

Bacterial and viral infections of nail unit are quite common. Acute paronychia caused by Staphylococcus aureus and warts caused by human papilloma virus are by far the most common bacterial and viral infections of nail unit, respectively. Other infections that can occur in nail unit are herpes simplex infection, syphilis, mycobacterial infections, and so on. Myiasis of nail unit can also occur rarely. This chapter describes various infections of nail unit, clinical features, and pathogenesis of important condition and management of these diseases with special emphasis on acute paronychia and warts.
