ABSTRACT

Micromobility was the life-blood of all sustainable cities. If we can introduce this lifeblood into our cities by organising the transport system in this way, the cities will become again the centres of our economy, culture and society - and they will be sustainable, as they have been during the last 10,000 years. A problem in modern societies is the complexity of the system they have built with their technical means. Natural systems work perfectly because they have had time to develop perfection - more than four billion years. Countries in Southeastern Europe now have opportunities to avoid the main mistakes in city planning and transport system development, if they apply the scientific and empirically-sound findings. Motorisation in these countries is still much closer to a sustainable level than in most of the cities of western Europe. Americans will find much more in the countries in transition than in European Union countries.
