ABSTRACT

Theological education focused on two things, such as, the Bible and Christian doctrine. The rest of the subjects were like the extra features we get in the current mobile phones. It is up to you to select and use the features that tickle your fancy. Indian Christian theology was unheard of at that time. Kaj Baago's Pioneers of Indigenous Christianity, introducing some of these hitherto neglected Indian-Christian writings, came out in the early 60s. The bits and pieces we came to know about Indian and Sri Lankan church history were introduced to us more or less incidentally through courses such as 'Early Church History' or the 'History of the Ecumenical Movement'. The dominant theologies which held sway at the time were the secular theologies and biblical theology. Secular theology and its worst incarnation, 'the Death of God', was well past its sell-by date in the West, but its influence was palpable in Indian theological classes.
