ABSTRACT

In this part of the book, we address issues related to the production and consumption of foodgrain and feedgrain in China. To better understand how grain production and consumption have evolved in China in the past decade or so, it is useful to have an overview of the developments in China’s grain policies. Such an overview will also facilitate our understanding of China’s grain trade that will be the focus of the next part of the book. This chapter is devoted to highlighting the developments of China’s grain policies since the early 1990s.1
