ABSTRACT

It has been shown in earlier chapters that in China direct consumption of grains by humans has declined but, through increased use of grains as feed to produce more animal products, indirect consumption of grains has increased. In this chapter, we examine China’s feedgrain production and consumption. Section 7.1 addresses feedgrain production while Section 7.2 discusses feedgrain consumption. In Section 7.3 we highlight feedgrain demand and supply imbalances between regions. Finally, in Section 7.4, we briefly touch on the prospects for China’s feedgrain production and consumption.
