ABSTRACT

This Chapter outlines the relations between Cyprus and the European, compares Cyprus's law with Community law, discusses the efforts for harmonisation already made and evaluates the whole situation in the field of Air Transport. A committee was set up by the Council of Ministers of Cyprus to take decisions regarding the gradual implementation of the Third Aviation Package and the liberalization of the ground handling services. Council Regulation (EEC) established common rules for a denied boarding compensation system in air transport. The action plan provided for services and technical assistance for the introduction of regulations, procedures and manuals as well as on the job training of personnel with a view to achieve compliance with Council Regulation. Liberalized since the national measures were formulated in a way which ensured that the national air carrier (Cyprus Airways) is protected from any kind of competition.
